Spark Overhaul
Good News…
Your server, spark.securenet-server.net (’spark’), will be getting a complete overhaul. Actually, your server is being replaced with a brand new server — featuring the latest and greatest technologies. Here’s the new server’s specs:
- Dual Intel Xeon 2.33Ghz Quad-Core Processors (8 CPUs)
- 16GB Kingston DDR2-667 ECC Fully Buffered RAM
- 3Ware 9650SE RAID Controller
- 3Ware Battery Backup Unit
- 8 x Seagate Barracuda Enterprise Storage Hard Drives
(The server will use RAID-10 for optimal performance and reliability.)
A faster, more reliable website is coming soon (very soon). Right now all the files on your server are being copied over to the new server. This could take a couple of days due to the number of files on your server.
Stay Tuned… this blog will be updated frequently with status updates.

I don’t have that many files - I can download all of them to my HD in about three hours, so why will it take this faster server a couple of days?
Sounds like marketing hype, aka BS, to me!

If you were the only person on the server it wouldn’t take more than a few minutes, but there are hundreds of other websites on this server. Once all the data has been copied over to the new server, we can make the new server live and throw the old one away.
I’m not going to try to convince you how much faster and more reliable your website is going to be… You can experience it and see for yourself. Set your expectations HIGH and you’ll still be impressed — it’s that good.

Hey Mike.. Lighten up and read a bit.. i.e… about 25 people per server.. multiply that by the amount of time you say it takes you to download yours and voila.. explanation..
Additionally, given what I pay in a three month period.. and the service I’ve gotten for it over the past three years.. I don’t think I have a thing to whimper about if it was going to take ten days..
Impressive specs on the new one, and good job if you can move it all that quickly..
Having a fairly vast amount of crap on the three you host for me I”m not sure I personally could move them in a 24 hour period..*L*..
Thanks guys.
Have a great week.

A server update again? Nice. I don’t believe it was all that long ago we got upgraded and with it a ton of more storage and bandwidth. is there a chance more features will be introduced with this upgrade as well or is it strictly a performance upgrade?

Great!
I’ve been using ace-net for almost 2 years and have enjoyed their customer service and web hosting.

Acenet & Jerald,
superb service from start to finish, no worries at all about any kind of downtime involved in this server transfer. I’ve personally had an exemplary service since signing with this company and I understand the tribulations that are needed to keep up an excellent, providable service like you do.
Keep up the good work and thanks for all you’ve done since I’ve been on-board.
All the best and thnx.

Interesting to know that and look forward to upgrading my account if the service is as good as you promise.
Thanks

Jerald & the Acenet team,
I’ve been nothing but pleased with the service I’ve received so far - and now another improvement? With no additional cost to me? FABULOUS!!!
Your tech support is top-notch, and they’ve always rushed to my aid…even when the problem is my “newbie-ness” (which it usually is!).
I’ll keep recommending you to everyone I hear from who is looking for hosting services.
Keep up the great work anticipating your clients’ needs!
Thanks.

If you are disposing the old servers, is there a possibility that we can buy them off from you?

So, what kind of load do you expect to put on the new server (number of sites)?
March 25th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Hi Jerald,
Is this transfer the reason for the outages and server overloads?
Thanks in advance.

Thomas,
The number of sites isn’t really a good metric (in terms of performance), because not every website consumes the same amount of processing power. You are being moved to a server with a lot more processing power, and the server’s average CPU utilization shouldn’t exceed 50%.
Myk,
The server is being replaced because of the less than ideal performance.

Thanks Jerald, appreciate your efforts. ;-))

Good to hear Jerald. I was going to contact my rep because I notice serious lag far too often when opening my clients sites. Even the smallest sites are very slow loading and often do not load all images. Looking fwd to testing it out. I will let you know if I don’t see an improvement. Thanks much.
