The migration has been completed!

As of about 12:15am (EST) your website is now on a new server. You should notice a faster, more responsive website.

If you are missing a file or email, you can login to the old server and download it. Tentatively the old server will be kept online through March.

Old Server FTP IP: 207.210.72.250

New Server FTP IP: 207.45.186.98

Old Server cPanel login: https://207.210.72.250:2083

New Server cPanel login: https://207.45.186.98:2083

Old Server WebMail Login: https://207.210.72.250:2096

The new server has had the latest version of cPanel installed.  With the latest cPanel comes a new Apache installer, EasyApache3.  This installer limits which versions of PHP we are able to install and as such the new server has had php 5.2.5 installed on it.  The current server is running php 5.0.4 so some scripts may need to be updated to become compliant with the new php version.

Our apologies for the lack of prior notice.  We usually give a couple weeks notice for such a software upgrade, but due to the extreme urgency of this situation, we have to get service started on the new box.  If you have any difficulties with your site after the DNS change tonight, please feel free to post a ticket with our helpdesk and we will be glad to anything we can to help.

This server’s nameservers will be modified to reflect the new server location at midnight tomorrow night (Thursday March 27th 23:59 EST).

No changes are required on your part if you are using the nameservers:

ns3.securenet-server.net
ns4.securenet-server.net

however, there may be some accessibility issues until the changes have fully propagated.

If you are using custom nameservers, you will need to update them to reflect the following IPs:

207.45.186.99

207.45.186.100

If you need assistance with making this change, please do not hesitate to post a ticket with Technical Support:

Echo Server Migration

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Over the course of the past week or so, you may have noticed some performance issuses with your server.  We’ve been monitoring the machine closely in an attempt to determine the exact cause of the problem..  We concluded that the hardware was faulty and a drive replacement was required.  Initially, we had attempted to simply replace the hardware on the server and restore it in place.  After several failed attempts, we decided the best course of action was to simply migrate this server and its accounts to brand new hardware.

Here’s the new server’s specs:

  • Dual Intel Xeon 2.33Ghz Quad-Core Processors (8 CPUs)
  • 16GB Kingston DDR2-667 ECC Fully Buffered RAM
  • 3Ware 9650SE RAID Controller
  • 3Ware Battery Backup Unit
  • 8 x Seagate Barracuda Enterprise Storage Hard Drives

(The server will use RAID-10 for optimal performance and reliability.)

We have already performed the bulk of the data migration to the new server.  We are currently configuring the new machine with our default settings and will be performing a second pass later today.  If possible, I recommend that you hold off on making any major changes to your site.  The second pass will bring everything up to date on the new machine, but once this copy is finished, your files will be inconsistent if they are uploaded to the new machine.  Regardless, the old (current) box will remain online for a few weeks after the transfer just in case anyone needs anything off of it.

This is going to mean great things for your site(s).  This server is more powerful than your current one, MUCH more powerful.  In addition to the increased processing resources and large amount of RAM, our performance testing has shown RAID-10 to deliver high data speeds while maintaining redundancy.   Since the server is located on our new network, remote backups are thrown in to boot.

This blog will be updated as we have details.
